How old were you when you became a young carer? Perhaps you didn’t even realise you were caring for someone at the time? There are thousands of young carers who provide care to loved ones who have physical or emotional care needs.
Figures from the latest census found an 83% increase in young carers aged 5-7 since 2001 (Carers Trust, 2017); demonstrating just how many more children and young people are taking on extra caring responsibilities to look after a loved one who has a disability, illness, mental health condition or drug or alcohol addiction.
This Young Carer Awareness Day, we pledge to bring communities together by encouraging individuals, families, supporters and businesses to fundraise, to help us to continue to support young carers and young adult carers aged 5-25.
Carers Trust Cambridgeshire, Peterborough, Norfolk support young carers to be children and access time away from their caring role in a fun, safe and supportive space.
