We are providing free and tailored support for people looking after a family member or friend, so they and the person they care for can get to their appointment for the COVID-19 vaccination. And you can walk your walk for carers this March to raise money so that we can continue to provide this and other support to carers during the coronavirus pandemic.
Taking part in #WalkYourWalk21, Gemma Barber will be adding up the number of steps walked by her, her two children and her husband with the family goal of walking a million steps in March.
She said: “It works out as just over 8000 steps by each of us each day. Some days we definitely do walk more than others. Schools reopening will help add a few more steps to and from school. And it will be fun to see who does the most over the month.
“We know different people who all have or are looking after family members, for a range of reasons. And we know that can be really hard. So it is good to doing something to help.
“The children loved making a chart to put all their daily steps on. All of us are glad for a bit of a nudge to make sure we stay active and escape from screen time. With all the changes with lockdown at the moment, it’s good to have a bit of a consistent target to keep an eye on.
“We love it’s something we can do as a family even if not all our steps are walked together. And we liked the idea of walk your walk for carers – that it could be a one-off walk, daily or any kind of walking challenge. We had fun dreaming up our challenge. And we’re now underway!”
You can still sign up to take part! Signing up to the challenge is completely free and there is no minimum sponsorship that we ask you to raise to take part. If you pledge to raise £50 you will be sent a Caring Together T-shirt and if you raise £100 they will send you a water bottle to say thank you.
