Carers Trust Peterborough has been given a £5,000 donation by Buckles Solicitors LLP to support its work with family carers in the city.
It came from a charitable trust managed by Buckles, who are based in Bourges Boulevard, Peterborough.
Stephen Duffy, a Partner at Buckles, said a donor had left money in her Will to be given to local unspecified charities, and that our work closely matched the criteria stipulated by her.
He said: “The lady who donated this money told us that she wanted it to be used to provide relief for those in need and in ill health. I am certain that these funds will go a very long way and that Carers Trust Peterborough will do a fantastic job using it to support the work of carers of all ages.”
Mr Duffy presented the cheque to Linda Collumbell, Chair of Trustees for Carers Trust Peterborough, at their site, Thorpe Hall on Thursday, 22 September.
She said: “We are extremely grateful to receive this money and it will help enormously to fund some of our terrific projects in the city. There are 78,000 carers in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, but we know just over 10% of them. On average it takes two years for someone to identify themselves as a carer and too often they are forgotten, their needs unmet, and they can become exhausted and feel isolated.”
The Care Act 2014 places the needs of the carer on the same level of importance as the person they care for to protect their own health and wellbeing which can be suffer as a result of their caring role. Evidence shows that young carers can be bullied and their school work suffer, and there are now more elderly carers who need support as our ageing population increases.
Carers Trust Peterborough provides flexible breaks for family carers of all ages, help with completing a carer’s assessment, emergency support for carers and advice on the family Carers Prescription. The Young Carers team also provide groups and holiday activities for young carers and siblings. It offers advice, information and guidance to carers, as well as personalised support for their particular needs in their caring role.
