Volunteer from home to make sure organisations are carer-friendly
If you are a carer now, or have been in the past, could you join our team as a Volunteer Assessor for the Carer Friendly Tick Award.
The Carer Friendly Tick Award is made to organisations such as GP surgeries, hospital departments, schools, employers and community groups who have demonstrated they will identify and support unpaid carers in their organisations. But every application is assessed by carers themselves to make sure the organisation applying is truly carer-friendly.
Your contribution will be invaluable in recognising and promoting organisations who are identifying and supporting carers in health organisations, the workplace, education and the wider community.
This voluntary role is very flexible – you are welcome to provide as little or as much time are you are able. But whatever time you can contribute, you will be improving the lives of unpaid carers.
Duties will include:
- Ensuring applications meet the criteria for the Carer Friendly Tick Award standards and grading them appropriately.
- Providing constructive feedback and highlighting any examples of best practice within the application.
- Attending optional Assessor meetings to discuss applications and share thoughts and ideas on the Carer Friendly Tick Award processes.
As an Assessor with Caring Together, you will be supported in your role through a comprehensive training package and regular meetings with the other Assessors and Volunteers. You will also get to hear first-hand the positive things happening for carers through our weekly staff/volunteer update.
Together, we can create a more supportive and understanding environment for carers across Cambridgeshire, Peterborough and Norfolk. We look forward to hearing from you soon.
To express your interest or learn more about the role, please email [email protected] or call us on 0345 241 0954.
Meet Kay
Kay is a retired midwife who started volunteering as an Assessor for our Carer Friendly Tick Award accreditation after seeing the role advertised on Indeed. She enjoys sharing ideas with the rest of the team and using her previous experience to go through policies and practice against accreditation criteria, helping to ensure that other organisations work towards making their workplaces more carer friendly.
Kay now also volunteers at our Norfolk Young Carers Forum; a totally different role supporting meetings and activities. She was a bit nervous at first but enjoys listening to the young carers putting their voices forward and seeing how their friendships develop by being together.
Both volunteering roles fit in well with Kay’s life, and she recently went to an away-days for staff and volunteers from across the charity. She said it was so welcoming and friendly and lovely to feel part of the team.
