No unpaid carer left in crisis

No unpaid carer left in crisis

Unfortunately, it’s the reality for so many unpaid carers that they reach crisis point before getting the help they need. We are determined to help people early on, but also be there for those at crisis point. Please help us to continue to be there for unpaid carers in Cambridgeshire Peterborough and Norfolk who need help in a time of crisis.

Helen, Carer Advisor

Helen is one of our Carer Advisors on the Helpline Team. She told us about two  calls she’s taken from Tom and Maria, who felt alone, overwhelmed, and in despair. You can watch the video below to find out how Helen was able to support Tom and Maria, and the services we were able to offer them.

Trigger warning: The short film below includes details about real phone calls to the helpline, and there are some distressing details about suicidal feelings, domestic abuse, and despair. All names have been changed to protect confidentiality. If you are a carer who is struggling, please know we are here for you. You can call us on 0345 241 0954

How to support unpaid carers this Carers Week

One special way you could help us to support more local carers is to become a Carer Friend. These are people who make a regular monthly donation by Direct Debit. You will receive an exclusive Carer Friend badge, a welcome and thank you letter, as well as email updates on the impact your monthly donation is making.

You can also make a one-off donation to help fund our work. Every donation makes a difference and many of our services would stop without donations and fundraising.

  • A £10 donation could cover the hire of a room for a carer counselling session for an hour. This is a service we can make available for carers in emotional distress.
  • A £35 donation could enable me or one of my colleagues to listen to and help a carer on the phone for an hour.
  • A £50 donation could mean we can run a vital support group where carers can meet, make friends, and pick up tips and ideas to make caring easier.
