Carers Trust Cambridgeshire and Peterborough is holding a major event for family carers on Thursday 22 September, when supporters will be invited to write a carer’s pledge on a “wall”.
Entitled ‘Building a Caring Community – Brick by Brick’, the event at Thorpe Hall, Peterborough builds on the work we have been doing on the Caring Communities project with partnering organisations where we have trained over 200 Carer Friends and Carers Champions to:
- Raise awareness about carers
- Help identify hidden carers
- Put carers in touch with the breadth of support available in the local community.
Our keynote speaker, Adrian Chapman, Service Director Adult Services and Communities, Peterborough City Council, will speak on, ‘Carers Matter: Peterborough’s commitment to transform the support, wellbeing and quality of life of our carer community.’
Also attending are our partners in the local community who will be making pledges of their own. These include:
- James Whitmore from HM Passport Office
- Teresa Jude from Peterborough Hospital – Teresa will also be talking about the Carers Passports
- Penny Langley from Peterborough Regional College
- Cate Harding of Peterborough City Council who will be talking about their Investing in Communities project.
We will be showcasing the excellent work carried out by our volunteers and sharing stories about carers, young carers and young adult carers in the Peterborough area, as well as the work we do with our partners, including schools and colleges in the city.
Dr Helen Brown, CEO of Carers Trust Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, said: “We believe that by building Caring Communities, we will create places where carers are recognised and supported. We know that Rome was not built in a day, but we can lay the foundations by asking people to come and make a pledge on our Carer Pledge Wall. The Mayor of Peterborough, Cllr David Sanders, has already started us off with a pledge of his own, and we hope many more people will do so as well.
“For anyone unable to make the event, we have a pledge “wall” on our website and we have also set up a hashtag for people to make pledges via twitter #mycarerpledge. We want as many people as possible to make a pledge and spread the word about carers and how they can be supported. Let’s get this trending.”
All carers, professionals and anyone interested in learning more about how Carers Trust Cambridgeshire and Peterborough supports carers, are welcome to attend. There will be a marketplace for carers from 11am, with main speakers booked from 3-5pm.
