Great Yarmouth Charter Academy have been awarded Caring Together’s Carer Friendly Tick Award – Education in recognition of their work to identify and support carers.
Tracie Derry who is operational designated safeguarding lead at the school, said: “We are thrilled to have been awarded the Young Carers Tick Award – Education, which reiterates how we daily recognise and support these unsung heroes and the challenges they face daily”.
Ricky Cannell who works in pupil support, said: “I’m really pleased we have been awarded our Carer Friendly Tick, as it raises awareness of how challenging the roles of Young Carers are, and why it is so important to put the support in place.”
The school’s application to be awarded the Carer Friendly Tick was assessed by a group of carers.
The Carer Friendly Tick Award was originally developed for education by young carers from Caring Together’s Norfolk Young Carers Forum (NYCF) project. The success of this meant the awards have been rolled out across Norfolk, Peterborough and Cambridgeshire to now include education, community, health and employer awards.
These recognise the valuable work done in identifying and supporting carers carried out by each type of organisations.
