In 2013, members of St Ives Golf Club under the captaincy of Adrian Cook, raised over £4,000 for Young Carers in Huntingdonshire and Fenland.
A cheque presentation was made on New Years day by the outgoing captain Adrian to a representative from Carers Trust Cambridgeshire.
Young Carers were highlighted in the summer at the golf club following a talk given by Harvey Sparkes, a Young Adult Carer who spoke to the members about his life as a Young Carer and how he is still supported by Carers Trust Cambridgeshire now.
Adrian Cook said “Harvey turning up to my Charity Day in the summer and having the courage to talk was one of the highlights of the day. I know as a result some of the golf club members donated directly to the charity via the Gift Aid scheme”.
A Carers Trust Cambridgeshire, Peterborough, Norfolk spokesperson, said “The money raised by Adrian and the members of St Ives Golf Club is a staggering amount of money. Both I and the Young Carers this will directly benefit are very grateful. We rely heavily on donations to support the work we do supporting 300 Young Carers and this will enable us to carry on some of the work we do in supporting the Young Carers and their families”.
