Young carers, family carers and residents from The Red House Care Home celebrated all things 1940’s on Saturday 19th August at the 1940’s Camp in Ramsey. Carers Trust Cambridgeshire were fortunate enough to be able to fund tickets to attend the event through the Ramsey Million Big Local project, which funds intergenerational projects in the local community.
Carers Trust Cambridgeshire are beginning the 2nd year of the intergenerational project in Ramsey, with this year’s focus on cookery in the 1940’s, helping young carers to recognise differences between food culture today and those during world war 2. The project helps to build friendships between the generations and encourages young carers to be active volunteers in their communities.
Young carers had the opportunity to spend a day with their family at the camp finding out things about the 1940’s ready for the start of the 2nd year of the project later this month, a young carer said
“Thank you sooo much for inviting me and my family today. I loved it, especially going in the trenches with my brother and dancing”.
Young carers are a vulnerable group who go unidentified in our communities, projects like the intergenerational project help to raise awareness of caring whilst giving young carers a break.
