Peterborough Libraries presented with Carer Friendly Tick AwardWe’re delighted to announce Peterborough Libraries have been presented with the Carer Friendly Tick Award in recognition of their work to identify and support unpaid carers.

With libraries playing a role in the hearts of many communities it is very welcome that Peterborough Libraries have joined Cambridgeshire Libraries in holding the award.

All 10 libraries across Peterborough now hold the award. As part of their commitment to identifying and supporting carers the libraries are displaying information for carers and promoting events such as Carers Rights Day. Staff have also been given carer awareness training.

Samantha Wright, Library Supervisor, said, “We received the Carer Friendly Tick Award – Communities, because we understand the need to provide support and information for local residents who are carers, looking after a partner, relative, or friend who has a disability, mental or physical illness.

“All staff have received training and are now fully equipped to help our customers who are carers with the support they need. We hope it is a small step in making a difference to their lives.”

Jill Nooij, Caring Together carer awareness and voice co-ordinator said, “We are really delighted to have been able to present the award to all 10 of Peterborough Libraries. It has been a pleasure to see their commitment and to hear what they are doing so more people will be aware of caring and the support available to carers.

“With three in four of us who look after someone not even realising we are a carer, and libraries playing an important role in so many communities, the work of Peterborough Libraries is really appreciated.”

The libraries covered by this award are Peterborough Central Library, Bretton Library, Dogsthorpe Library, Eye Library, Hampton Library, Orton Library, Stanground Library, Thorney Library, Werrington Library and Woodston Library.
